Hey Family!
This week was pretty good. Elder Quinantoto and I had some mighty fine times. And I want you all to know, "I am no longer without privilege in manners of fancy." That's from the Testaments, we watched it with our investigators. It's really cheezy. Haha. Okay, so I guess I'll start from the beginning.
On Monday, if you didn't know, we got to talk to each other, on the phone. That was great. Sorry if our conversation was weird about LBM and whatnot, but I had fun. Anyway, after that the P-day was mostly boring, we wanted to basket but it was raining. At night we had a FHE planned with our Ward Mission Leader, Elmer, and his family. We started and as soon as we did their missionary son called, so that ended. We ended up just talking to Elmer about PMG and preparing for a mission since he's still only 18, but our WML. It was fun, and they fed us delicious food, like this mixed up egg and fish thing, it was way cool.
So now, District Meetings are on Tuesday. Our District Leader is Elder Farnsworth, he's a way good Elder, I knew him in Molo because he was an office Elder before. He's way good. We talked about the Doctrine of Christ and why it's so important that our investigators progress towards baptism. We talked about it's not just about baptizing, but that is the way for these people to enter into the kingdom of God. It got me real excited. We shouldn't be scared ever to invite people to be baptized. Even if they are not quite ready, they should know that's what their progressing to. If this is right, if it's true, it's what they HAVE to do to receive the blessings we know God has promised us. Anyway, that's how we started off our day. We taught this man named Elmar Gumban. He's a nice guy. He's way logical and historical based. So he really wants like proof and whatnot. But we talked to him and he said he felt he received an answer through the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true. We talked to him and tried to make sure he knew what that meant, then invited him to be baptized. He didn't accept right then, but he understood our purpose, and what it means if it's true. After that we did some contacting. I'm pretty sure the main thing I'm suppose to learn from Elder Quinantoto is how to serve others better. He always finds a million little ways to serve others throughout the day. We saw this guy carrying water and walked with him to the top of this mountain. Well, we carried the water for him, you know? Anyway, then we talked to him and his grandkids about the gospel. It was nice. At night we tried tracting near our house. The thing about our area now is that transportation ends at like 6pm so we have to get back close to our apartment by then or we have to walk around 2 hours. So we tried tracting there and did really well. We found a new family, the Alba family, 4 kids, ages 10-16. It was amazing. Sitting there with 8 of us talking about the gospel. They had great questions and I think they have potential. I'm excited to see what happens to them!
Wednesday was sweet too. The best part is there is this less active sister the last Elders have been sharing with named Rutchie. She's been less active for 20 years but recently started coming to church every 3-4 weeks. Anyway, she has a husband who refused to see the missionaries always, but the missionaries before taught her about prayer and to pray with her husband. Anyway, Elder Quinantoto told me her situation and that she and her husband were going to split up because her husband told her to choose between the church and them, and she chose the church, but she was sad. We prepared to share with her about the atonement but when we got there, she told us everything was worked out now. Because they prayed together they are okay, and Noel will face us and listen. Anyway, they both came to church yesterday and Noel has a baptismal date for June 11. I'm excited for him. He's way quiet though, and can't read or write, but his wife is helping him a lot. I really just need to help him get him talking and not being so shy!! So keep that man in your prayers, I believe he'll be ready though!
We also taught this one family that missionaries found a couple transfers ago who are like golden. But they can't be baptised for 4 years though due to complications, but the missionaries requested that they are visited every once in a while. They got discouraged since they have to wait so long to be baptized, so they stopped coming to church, but hopefully we can help them become strong "members" even though they have to wait so long.
Anyone, our other set investigator is Ronnil. He's way cool. We taught him on friday about the plan of salvation. He really understood. He seems way set. He has a less active brother in law that we were thinking about. We were reading the talk from a General Conference about a young man who is being set apart as an elder and some random guy was going to do it. When the General Authority saw, he was like, no, your father will do it. Anyway, the father did it with some help and then he and his son became friends. It also had the story about the priesthood blessing for the man going to war, and how that would be more powerful than if a general authority did it himself. Anyway, we were thinking of trying to help his brother in law become active and be able to baptize him. That would really help him feel the spirit and hopefully realize his responsibilities as a priesthood holder.
We also have this nice family, the Gonzales family. We've been teaching them and last time we shared about the Plan of Salvation. The Sister said that there is something different about our message. Elder Quinantoto were talking about that and how it's so weird, because we were teaching other people the same message, trying to help them personally to understand, but they said it was all the same as usual. It was just interesting because people really have to be willing to let the spirit come into their hearts. Even if the spirit is so strong and has a battering ram and is beating his way in, it won't come in unless the person is willing to feel it and follow it. That's what God wants. He's trying to guide us but we really got to be willing to change.
So friday was Friday the 13th. It actually was kind of interesting because in the morning I was trying to make french toast. So I got 3 eggs out of the fridge and dropped one on the ground. It was sad. Then I had my mix and bread by the stove and tried to light the stove with a match, but I dropped the matches in my egg mix. And then I couldn't light any matches, so I got a lighter and lit the gas stove with a lighter, that was kind of hot. And then I tried to turn the heat down and I turned it off on accident, so I had to light it again! But after that everything turned out okay, and the french toast was delicious.
Saturday was the Jubilee. It was fun. Ronnil came with us. Our ward did sweet dancing. They did an Ati-ati dance. Just look at the pictures I send you. It was cool. 50 years now the church has been here in the Philippines.
After that we had church. It was way tight. Noel Arrieta arrived before we did at the church in a white shirt. HE's a good guy. Then Ronnil came too. It was fun. The teachers are way good and I really enjoyed all the classes.
I guess that's mostly it.
Take care,
I love you.
Elder Burton
